ArsTechnica posted about Google's new design earlier this month, now it's available for everyone: Google's new design. After years of the same design, they have finally switched to a new (arguably) "fresher" design.
I would tend to say it's a nice change, other than the fact that they've removed the Google Directory from the options at the top of the page, but you may disagree. Also they've made the ads less prominent . What do you think? |

By removing the directory they have made Google half the search engine it was, it's still there, but no longer comes up in search results. |

When did it ever come up in search results? I've always had to go separately to the directory to search it (or click on the "Directory" link). |

for some things, it used to display a link to the relevent directory pages |

That is a shame then. However, unless they plan on doing away with the directory, you can still search separately (obviously not very practical though ). |
