I have a small amount of DB experience, and have just started looking at concurrency issues. Could anyone offer and overview of locking in MySQL, and how to use it in a web environment?
Thanks in advance,

I don't know much about these things either, but I do know that all the PHP & MySQL scripts I have looked at do not use locking (even big ones like phpBB). I don't know if that's because it's not necessary in MySQL, or whether it's because their authors don't think it's needed. |

Is this like the flock() function for file handleing in PHP or am I missing the point? |

Yes, it's something to that effect: you can "lock" tables to prevent reading and/or writing. |
