"Bandwidth" - What does it mean?

What is the bandwith that is refered to when hosting a site?

How is it controled?

Is it the kbps speed from your ips?

well bandwith is better always to have more because if you don't have enough like 3000 people will see your webpage then your site will be offline till next month.

when hosts refer to bandwidth, they're actually referring to the amount of data you can transfer per month, not the connection speed of the server.

Technically, bandwidth is the speed of the connection to the server, which depends on the time of line which connects the server to the Internet (T1, or even DSL Surprised

).

However, for a long time now, the hosting industry has been using the word bandwidth instead of the word transfer, which is the amount of data which can be transferred to/from (uploads/downloads) your account in a day/month/year (usually a month).

Depending on the host, the transfer calculation may also take into account transfer incurred by FTP, POP, IMAP & SMTP traffic, as well as HTTP (web) traffic.
