As i did have a site there i still get mails from them, this is the latest...
............
2002 is going to be an interesting year for Portland Communications.
As you are probably aware from previous emails, we launched several new
services late during 2001, including the Enhanced & Premium Web Hosting.
This year is going to be no different as we have several front line
projects lined up for release including an open free sql server and a
Classifieds directory which will be free for Portland users.
We also have several projects undergoing their first upgrades; the
Backup server is being upgraded so that it can backup remote files
from other web and ftp sites (this will allow you to backup a website
hosted elsewhere every night), and the VISP Controller is also being
revamped to give greater flexibility in the administration of
accounts.
Finally, there are a couple of ASP projects in the pipeline which may
be of interest. We are building small tools - not earth shattering
programs - that can do simple little jobs on the Internet. These will
be largely free to use, and will be posted on our site when they become
available - so stay tuned.
In wishing everyone a belated Happy New Year we do so believing that
Portland is better than ever and is the best value ISP around. Can the
best get better?
Happy New Year.
Regards,
Portland Sales |

Did anyone else find they were dated 8th Feb, recieved them on 13th of Feb?

I got a few spread out over a few days. Probably they have a load of customers and it takes a while to send a few hundred thousand emails. F2S also had the similar delays with the dreaded email. |

I signed with Portland lured by the fantasy of getting something for nothing. Anyhow, I tried to run a script of mine that ran beautifully at f2s and also on a private server but at Portland it failed b/c they don't have PHP set up so that you can use fopen() to read a url. So, how am I supposed to have a weatherfeed and a newsfeed? |

Their DNS servers are poo, it takes about 4-5 days to start working. If you use a port5 domain though it should work instantly.

I use more bandwidth in one day than portland allow in a month, I've shifted 150mb yesterday, and the way it's going it's going to be nearer 250 for today! |

Impressive, I managed about 6.5MB for my first month
Admittedly part of the site is hosted seperatly (free .co.uk domain from NDO and the part of the site that needs database and php is on 34sp.com) but still in total it would probably be about 10MB! |
