phpbb - spamming through user profile website

Hi everyone:

There seems to be a person(s) on my phpbb forum who is creating spam website links on his profile. This person is not creating any posts on my forum, so I can't figure out his IP from posts. Nevertheless, this person has created 30 fake accounts all ready, and it's very annoying.

Is there a way for me to track this person's IP? I really want to ban this person, but I don't know how to do it if he hasn't posted a message. Thanks--I hope my problem description is clear.

This is quite a common occurance. You won't have much luck blocking a specific IP, as the accounts are created by bots. I don't have any experience trying to stop this kind of thing, but maybe Daniel will be able to help some more.

Have you installed the visual confirmation MOD (see http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=227 for details)? It's included in the standard phpBB distribution, but has to be enabled separately.
