Can you pay for hosting with f2s without getting a domain name?
I have a pretty good ranking with the search engines and I don't want to change address at the moment.

I have tried asking f2s, but I haven't got an answer yet.
Thanks in advance Cool

Hey Justin,

Can I keep the subdomain without buying a domain name?
I still haven't got an answer from f2s.
Oh and thanks for your help Smile

As long as you have the subdomain on the same account as the ADSL you will be able to keep it.

Sorry for having to ask for info here instead of from f2s, but they seem pretty slack in answering their E-mail.

I don't have adsl, I live in Australia so I don't think I will be using them as an ISP, I just want to keep my subdomain account.
Thanks again for the help Smile

Surely they wouldn't mind if you paid them for the hosting, but only used the subdomain?!

I got this E-mail in reply:

At the end of February 2002 all .f2s.com free accounts will be
discontinued BUT don't panic, if you'd like to rescue your free account
all you have to do is ...

purchase a NEW domain name(£12) and either accompanying webspace(£24) or
e-mail(£24) or both using the same account that your free .f2s.com
domain name is held on.
If these are purchased on the same user account as the .f2s.com is on
then it will not be discontinued on 28th February but will remain active.

You will be billed annually for the domain name and webspace. .coms are
£12 and Webspace is £24. The annual bill would be £36. You will not be
billed for the free domain and webspace that will stay on your account.

You can purchase online with a credit/debit card or you can print out an
order form from our website and send it to us with a cheque or banker's
draft made out in £ sterling.

I hope this is clear, if you have any further questions and cannot find
the answers on our website I shall be pleased to answer them.

Extra space for your website can be purchased, details on our site.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it looks to me like I have to pay for a domain name and the 20mb is shared between the two accounts. I have asked some more questions and will let know what happens. Thank you to everyone for your help.
If they made things clearer on their site I wouldn't have to bother you guy's Smile

you keep your old account (20mb web + 20mb email) and you buy the new one which will give you another 20, so you get 40mb web alltogether

Ok I got another E-mail, you do have to either buy or transfer a domain name. They won't let you just pay to keep the subdmain.

Oh well not to worry, I guess I'll have to cough up the bucks Smile

Thanks again everyone for helping out with this.

I have a paid account with f2s and both the free account and the one I paid for were accessed under the same account name. Today, the free account was closed without explanation. I have emailed Chris who has provided much assistance in the past - I will be sure to post his reply here. I was under the same impression (Having talked with their sales people directly about it before I became a paid account). Now, I am unable to even access my paid account even though the FTP program can get into it. I want the same thing as most users and that is to keep and use the "free" account, and pay for a domain which I will not use now since there has been so much work put into the free account site. I have a number of scripts which will not work anywhere else. It will be a real job to edit them all.

Let's hope you actually do get a reply from Chris!
