Picture driving me crazy!

id be so appreciative of any input. i've been trying to take an image from photoshop 6 to flash 5, which seems to insist on having a full coloured block around the image itself.

i have tried to copy from magic wand, isolating all i want, having the canvas as transperant doesn't help either.

i'm trying to make my mum fly on a magic carpet (her 50th bday, showing her the retro love) and the big huge block that she isnt doesnt make for a realistic flying fun time.

any ideas? (im hoping its something blatently obvious im overlooking)

I've just tried with Photoshop 7 to Flash MX and that seems to work. As far as I can find out it appears it should work in Flash 5 as well.

Are you just trying to copy and paste between the two apps? if so I don't think this will work.

Have you tried actually saving the image as a transparent gif?

If you want to avoid the halo of antialiased pixels you get on anything other than horizontal or vertical edges you might also like to try saving as a PNG which allow you to use a proper alpha channel.

hey there..

yeah i was pretty much just trying to copy paste from one to the other.. i had saved to a jpg and opened it in flash and found that my transperant background had gone white in the process... is this why u use gifs??

whats up with that?

Yes, I believe that only gif and png files support transparency, so if you want a transparent area, use gif or png Smile

btw, IE does doesnt support tranparency in PNG's properly.

thanks for the info, you guys rock.
this is the first 'techie' forum ive ever signed up for so its nice to get so much feedback so quick!
i wasn't able to save the picture as a gif, so png it was, which solved my problem thus far.
fortunately this movie is just going to be an .exe in the end on a cd,(i have to send it to new zealand to be played) as opposed to on the web, but for future purposes thats good to know.

It may not matter to IE if the PNG is embedded in a Flash Movie Question
